Lindt & Sprüngli relies on Interseroh+ for sustainable packaging optimisation

Lindt & Sprüngli is developing the recyclability and raw material efficiency of its packaging further. As a competent service provider, Interseroh+ is supporting the achievement of packaging-specific sustainability goals. “Made for Recycling” delivers independent analysis and recognised certification.

Cologne. By 2025, Lindt & Sprüngli intends to make all of its packaging recyclable or reusable, to eliminate the use of non-recyclable plastics and reduce its overall consumption of new plastics by 20 percent. For this purpose, the leading supplier of premium chocolate is now drawing on the expertise of the environmental services provider Interseroh+ for the sustainable optimisation of its packaging. In this respect, on the basis of the “Made for Recycling” standard, Interseroh+ is supporting the implementation of the “Lindt & Sprüngli Packaging Commitments” on an efficient basis worldwide.

Axel König, Corporate Sustainable Packaging Initiative Manager at Lindt & Sprüngli, explains: “The professional support from Interseroh+ will help Lindt & Sprüngli to achieve our five commitments for sustainable packaging in order to support the circular economy.”

“We are pleased to be able to support Lindt & Sprüngli with this sustainable packaging project. Our specialists have innovative tools and the requisite know-how for the realisation of packaging concepts with the greatest possible recycling rates and a high rate of raw material efficiency – for all conceivable market conditions and products. We are very pleased to be able to support leading companies such as Lindt & Sprüngli,” says Markus Müller-Drexel, Managing Chairman of Executive Board, Interseroh+ GmbH.

Interseroh+ offers customised solutions as a professional partner on the journey to achieving recyclable and sustainable packaging. The long-term cooperation includes the continuous provision of advice worldwide – among others, in the USA, France, Italy and the DACH region. Expert workshops also provide specific know-how on topics such as the use of recycled materials and paper packaging.

To assess the recyclability of the packaging quickly and easily, Lindt & Sprüngli uses the online “Check for Recycling” tool. For a more detailed analysis, the internationally experienced experts from “Made for Recycling” step in. With its scientific assessment method, the service was developed by the environmental services provider Interseroh together with the bifa environmental institute, and has been confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV. At the in-house centre of competence for plastics recycling of Interseroh+, the experts not only assess the materials and design of the packaging, but also its practical sorting capability and recyclability. In 2020, the laboratory in Maribor, Slovenia, was awarded international accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) – as the only research institution recognised in the EU to specialise on the development and analysis of recycled plastics.
